How to Dress Your Baby

Clothes can have a big effect on how your hiking will go. Choosing the right clothes for the right situation can help guarantee a fun outing with your child! Hot, cold, or anywhere in-between, I hope these pointers help for your next adventure.

Summer Hiking

Heat and sunshine are the biggest concerns for summer hiking! When it’s hot out dress baby as you would dress yourself-shorts and a shirt!

Try to avoid hiking in the hottest parts of the day, so aim for the early morning or evening hikes.

Items to Consider:

-Wide Brim hat

-Breathable, SPF long-sleeve shirt

-Mist bottle/fan

Winter Hiking

While you may warm up quickly on a winter hike baby isn’t moving much and can get quite cold! Dress baby in layers to stay warm and give you options for if the weather changes. If you’re worried about babies temperature, feel their neck to do a check.

3 Basic Layers

-Baselayer(wool)

-Midlayer(fleece bunting)

-Outerlayer (down bunting)

Accessories to Consider

-Beanie

-Socks

-Mittens

-Carrier cover or blanket

Fall and Spring Hiking

For me, this is the trickiest time to dress baby because you never know what the weather is gonna do! What worked best for me is bringing many different options and deciding when we got to the trailhead. Light layers are gonna be your friend! And bringing a jacket and some socks on the hike can give you some peace of mind if the weather cools down.
